Joseph studied Physiotherapy in Auckland, New Zealand under the Colombo Plan Scholarship (awarded by Public Service Commission) and graduated from AUT University, Auckland (formerly Auckland Technical Institute) in 1977.
He served out his 8 year bond in the Ministry of Health, working in Singapore General Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the then Toa Payoh General Hospital.
He opened his own clinic, Orchard Physiotherapy Centre in 1988 at the then Specialists’ Shopping Centre and practised there till 1998 and thereafter moved to the present location at Orchard Building.
His special interest is in the treatment of musculoskeletal problems, especially of the neck and back and management of sports injuries. He has given numerous talks and presentations on related topics to different organizations over the years.
He was the appointed physiotherapist to the National soccer team from 1985-1992.
During his school days in SJI, he played badminton at school and combined schools levels and was in the first batch of F&N badminton trainees. He switched to squash during his national service and has played competitively since then. He served as VP in the Singapore Squash Rackets Association and was involved in the association for many years. He is presently the President of the largest squash club in Singapore – United Condo Squash Club. He has run a few marathons and numerous half marathons, and swims regularly.
